Reaching 2-1-1 VIRGINIA

2-1-1 is a Federally designated three-digit dialing number that connects citizens to human services information and referral services. But, because 2-1-1 is not yet Nationwide, some phone carriers have not yet programmed their systems to allow direct access to 2-1-1. If you experience trouble reaching 2-1-1 VIRGINIA, please see the tips below.

Calling 2-1-1 from a Cell Phone

2-1-1 is accessible to all callers with Virginia area codes (i.e. 571 and 703 in Northern Virginia). If you have an out-of-state area code, you may experience difficulty calling 2-1-1. We are working to correct this problem and you can help! If you experience a problem connecting to 2-1-1, call your cell phone company's customer service office to notify them of the problrm and then call our toll-free number, 1-(800) 230-6977, or our local phone number, (703) 752-5254, or send us a message, to obtain assistance.

Calling 2-1-1 from Work

If you're unable to access 2-1-1 from your work phone, speak with your technical department or the person responsible for telephone administration to request 2-1-1 dialing access. 2-1-1 is a new dialing sequence, so phone systems at agencies, government entities and companies will have to be programmed to allow employees to dial 2-1-1. In the meantime, you can access us by calling our toll-free number, 1-(800) 230-6977, or our local number, (703) 752-5254, or sending us a message, to obtain assistance.

Calling 2-1-1 from Home

If you're unable to access 2-1-1 from home, you may be experiencing one of the following situations:

Please alert your phone service provider about this situation. In the meantime, you can access us by calling our toll-free number, (800) 230-6977, or our local number, (703) 752-5254, or sending us a message, to obtain assistance.

2-1-1 Calls from Cable/Broadband Phones

Cable and broadband phones use a unique technology that makes it difficult to connect to services such as 211, 411 and 911. This is because the technology allows calls to be routed anywhere the service exists. If you dial 2-1-1 in New York, you might be routed to 2-1-1 in Los Angeles. In most cases, your provider can provide you with the service, but you must call the provider and request dedicated tracing and routing of your service to the appropriate 2-1-1 call center.

In the meantime, you can access us by calling our toll-free number, (800) 230-6977, or our local number, (703) 752-5254, or by sending us a message, to obtain assistance.

Calling 2-1-1 from Payphones

The 2-1-1 three-digit dialing number was previously used by payphone providers as a way for callers to receive a refund for money lost while trying to place a call at a payphone. Some payphone service providers may not have yet programmed calls to route to 2-1-1. Please call our toll-free number, (800) 230-6977, or our local number, (703) 752-5254, or send us a message to obtain assistance.
