2-1-1 VIRGINIA in the Northern Region Featured on FOX 5
News segments will discuss ways to reduce the cost of living and the offer residents some of the tools to do so.
Arlington, VA (July 25, 2008)--On Thursday, July 24, WTTG-Fox 5 featured 2-1-1 VIRGINIA in the Northern Region throughout the day, as they discussed methods and tools for reducing the cost of living.
2-1-1 VIRGINIA is a statewide Information and Referral (I&R) service administered by the Virginia Department of Social Services, that provides 24/7 access to health and human services in the region. The three-digit phone number helps individuals navigate the increasingly complex social services system and offers a wide range of support to individuals, such as housing or financial assistance, or care for an aging or ailing parent.
As our economy continues to decline, the need for health and human services increases as people find themselves struggling to make ends meet. People who have never sought assistance before, unexpectedly find themselves needing it now. By dialing 2-1-1, anyone can quickly and easily find the services they need to help them get back on their feet. 2-1-1 helps callers access resources in the community when they need them the most.
2-1-1 VIRGINIA is a program of the Virginia Department of Social Services and is provided regionally by 6 organizations. In early February, 2-1-1 VIRGINIA became a statewide system when CrisisLink launched 2-1-1 service in Northern Virginia. CrisisLink’s I&R Specialists collect and maintain information on more than 4,400 programs available in Northern Virginia and work with callers to identify and connect them to the services they need.
