CrisisLink Recognizes the Dedication and Commitment of our Volunteers with Special Event at National Airport
More than 100 volunteers help make possible CrisisLink’s many life saving programs. CrisisLink honored these community heroes on June 27 for all that they do for CrisisLink and the community.
On June 27, 2008, CrisisLink honored its volunteers and celebrated their commitment to serving the community at its Annual Volunteer Recognition Event held in Reagan National Airport’s Historic A Terminal. The event honored CrisisLink volunteers for their service on the hotlines, for the integral role they play in educating the community about suicide prevention techniques, depression awareness, and the services available for those in need; for helping to raise vital funds to support CrisisLink's operations; and for the leadership roles they hold within the organization. Without the commitment and dedication of amazing volunteers, CrisisLink would not be able to provide the region with nationally-recognized, life saving programs. CrisisLink’s volunteers have a deep commitment to saving lives and preventing tragedies. Hotline volunteers serve as first responders, on par with firefighters, police, and paramedics. Our many other volunteers are vital to our outreach initiatives and fundraising efforts, helping us educate the community on how to recognize, and respond to, the warning signs of depression and suicide, ensuring people know where to turn for help, and making sure CrisisLink has the funding necessary to make it all possible. In early May, CrisisLink’s Hotline Volunteers received the James B. Hunter III Community Hero Award as part of Arlington’s Neighborhood Day. And in June, Congressman Jim Moran publicly recognized CrisisLink’s volunteers in the Congressional Record. Rep. Moran attended the event to personally thank the volunteers for all they do. “I am very grateful to CrisisLink’s current and former volunteers for all they do to serve the residents of Virginia’s 8th District and the region…and thank CrisisLink for providing such a vital service to our community.” Guest speakers included Congressman Jim Moran, Arlington County Supervisor Mary Hynes, and Jim Thur, Executive Director of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. Fairfax County Supervisor Jeff McKay was also present as an honored guest. Special thanks is also due to the sponsors whose generous support helped make the evening possible and to CrisisLink’s supporters, friends, and staff for for helping us honor our wonderful volunteers this year. Your support, as well as the support of all our year-round supporters, is instrumental in making possible the many life saving programs CrisisLink provides the region. ### |
